Queen of Hearts is taking the day off to observe Victoria Day. How appropriate!
Victoria Day is a holiday in Canada, and falls on the third Monday of May. Historically in monarchies, a day off is given to celebrate the sovereign’s birthday. Victoria’s birthday was May 24th. We still celebrate it today as the day of the current sovereign’s birthday. It helps keep the date relatively fixed and predictable. Otherwise, the day would change upon the succession of a new monarch, which would be annoying.
A funny thing Canadians like to do is refer to the date as “May 2-4″. This name reflects the date but also a large case of 24 beers normally purchased to celebrate what many Canadians consider the long weekend to start summer.
Just a quick note to say I have not abandoned the comics. Christmas time is very busy for me, but on top of that I lost power for two and a half days. Power just came back this afternoon. When I get time, I will ensure Queen of Hearts 3 begins posting. This will likely be the second week of January, but will be sooner if I can do it!
In the meantime, do not forget about the Erstwhile 2 Kickstarter, which is active now. We only have about two and a half weeks left to reach our goal, so we really need some help. Please pledge to us!
Erstwhile, the other comic I’m doing alongside this one and Velharthis, is doing a Kickstarter to fund the second volume of the comic going to print.

If you’re not familiar with Erstwhile, a collection of lesser known Brothers Grimm stories adapted to comic format, you can read them for free on ErstwhileTales.com and if you missed the first book, there are pledge levels that include it.
